Get the Look: Color Splash

Did you see my Get the Look post yesterday at Modern Handmade Child?  Check it out!

still with the pants??

Yes, still.  I'm getting closer.  And learned a valuable lesson.  Instead of the $9 knit fabric, I got this shirt for $2 at a resale shop.  And even better- I don't have to hem the pants because it's the bottom of the shirt.  I used this Prudent Baby tutorial, super easy!

sweater pants!

I'm obsessed!  I found this tutorial on how to make pants from your old sweaters...it seriously does take 20 minutes.

I tore my entire closet apart trying to find sweaters to cut up- I can't believe I just gave a whole bag away to Goodwill, ahhh!  I've made three so far and I think I need to hit up some thrift stores before I cut up everything I have.  (And maybe find some that are a little less fitted :)

After- but too small for Moo, they were 3/4 length sleeves.

And some stripe pants...

With Mama's sunglasses!

PS- I have such a snuggle bunny, I love him.

And another PS- I just can't do this Beatles post titles...nothing makes sense!

getting better

I haven't made clothing since college.  Let's just say I was never good at it.  But I really want to make clothes for Max, especially pants...he has a lot of cute shirts from Outside the Lines Designs :)

Here are the highs and lows of this project.

High = Super cute knit fabric from Needle Shop.
Low = Not enough fabric left on the bolt to make horizontal stripe pants I wanted.

High = Sewing went surprising smoothly (just two calls to Mom to interpret the pattern)
Low = They turned out super huge with a crazy weird dumpy butt.

High = I turned them into herem pants which I think are pretty cute.
Low = Because of the vertical stripe he still kinda looks like a chef.  Know the pants I'm talking about?

carry that weight

I woke up Thursday and saw a bean bag post on DosFamily and thought they would be easy to make and fun for Max.  It only took about a half hour, I used lentils to fill them.  But my mom had a good idea, I put the lentils in muslin and then in the patterned fabric so they can withstand some wear and tear and not leak!

here comes the sun

See, I'm on trend with my yellow front door!

tell me what you see

I was inspired by Mousehouse to make a color book for Max.  It's fun to read with him because he can identify with his own things, but it's also a keepsake!  I used Blurb, but there are many websites to make your own books.

I cut the letters for the cover out of patterns from old magazines and those handprints are real!

paperback writer

After a 4:00am wakeup time this morning, I had to think of a creative way to keep Max happy until nap time.  Enter "rip the magazine" game.  He loved it!

Oh yea...he also insisted on wearing only one slipper.
